    Here are the ?'s:

    1. What is the first gear ratio?
    2. What years was it available with a hydro assist clutch?
    3. What years did they use a 208 case? Also what was the spline count?

    Thanks in advance.

    3. also ahs a 208 T-case, not sure o nthe spline count.

All totaled out with my 3.73 gears ans 32's I have 63 to 1 crawl ratio. Not to bad for a stock rig.

The 208 was put behind the 465 starting in 81 (long 32 spline output)

    6.55:1 first gear

Hydro clutch started in 85 or so

The figure eight patteren 205 behind a SM465 is 11 spline. The round patteren 465 is long 32 spline.

What Rene said...if it is a pre-1981 tranny, it will have a 10-spline output...all of them had a 10-spline input...

10spline on older ones,Early 80s went to 31.Have the gertrag 5spd with 241.broke it {241}.One off 92 465 bolted right on. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/truck.gif /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif Also found out slip yoke from mid 80s 205 will fit 241 and uses 1350 joint.

I wouldn't put a range box in front of a 241...I would use the 241 planetary set as a range box in front of a 205 though. The hard part is building it...

Getrag is a nice shifting tranny, but the one piece aluminum design worries me. Plenty of fullsize Chev trucks running them though.

I think average life for the Getrag seems to be 140,000 miles and then they start to get difficult to shift when cold among other problems. I had one in an 88 GMC and liked it...but it was a 2WD truck. I'd like OD too, but the lack of a crawler gear makes it nearly useless to me.

Changing the gear fluid regular help shifting. Most use trans fluid. On bout 3rd change I went to hyd gear fluid.Same as used in systems that use same resivor for hydrolic cyl and gear box.States it's for use in gearbox assem.Been running this for 8yrs now and still works good.Change at least once a yr. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/truck.gifer /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif Still want doubler or granny gear though.

I think the 2 different 465 input shafts are both 10 spline but one is larger diameter

1985 was the first year for the hydraulic clutch... but a linkage clutch SM-465 can be converted to run a hydraulic clutch assembly with a bell housing from a 1985 and later transmission.
