My father in law is coming up here to pre-move some stuff and is driving his '69 chevelle all the way up from So. TX (approx 1700 miles), refuses to tow it or have it transorted. This is a perfect cherry car with 40K or so original miles on it. He is all freaked out about the altitude, which will vary between at or below sea level (what the car is used to), 10K ft on the passes and a final alt. here of about 4,600 ft.

He thinks it needs a carb rebuild prior to or during the trip.

I think the thing will run fine, but am looking for some other opinions so I can reassure him that all will be well.

Before I got stuck on K5's I had a 69 Mach 1 and I regularly went from my home town in OK, 1100 msl, to myh place in CO at 9,000. I never needed to use the choke in the mornings, but it ran fine. I would spend a week or two there and then come back down so I don't know if you would have a problem with a long time exposure.

It will make the journey just fine. He should re-tune it when he gets to where ever the car is going to stay since the altitude will change the required tune that is needed on the car.
