Just finished the new bumper. <a target="_blank" href=http://community.webshots.com/album/29844311LJDFoDnOiJ>http://community.webshots.com/album/29844311LJDFoDnOiJ</a> Thought I'd get some opinions on it from fellow CK5'ers. The winch box is all 1/4&amp;amp;quot; plate (top is going to be 3/8&amp;amp;quot; as soon as I can get some from the local supplier), tubes are 2&amp;amp;quot; .120 DOM. I know DOM is probably overkill but HREW was actually more expensive believe it or not. So, what do you guys and girls think?

Looks great. I have been pondering doing one similar to that. But I also like <a target="_blank" href=http://coloradok5.com/vendors/frbumperslant.jpg>this one.</a>
Any pointers on building one similar to yours?

Thanks guys. It was about two days worth of work, only because I didn't get my notcher until the 2nd day of the project, and notching tube with a chop saw SUCKS!

FRIZZLEFRY: I used a JD2 #3 bender (2", 6.5 CLR, 180 degree die) for the whole bumper. I just got the bender about a month ago, and this bumper was the first thing I bent up. The "bendin' tube 101" article on the POR board made it really easy to figure out the bends.

I used to have a style similar to the one that SEC builds. I got rid of it because I wanted something different, and something that didn't weigh 120+ pounds w/o a winch.

Man, that is one of the best looking tube bumpers I have seen for a Blazer, I'm not jokeing, I may get with you later for the specs, I like the way it wraps around to protect the fender.

I gotta get me a real tube bender. The harbor freight one works ok but a good bender would be nice. That tube bending article on the POR is great.

Man, that's exactly want I have been thinking about building!

If you don't mind, how much $ do you have in the tubing and other steel?

Also, do you have a link to the tubing article on POR?

BigJ, That is 100% awesome! I have my 2" .134 tube ready to go and I hope you won't mind me using some of your pics as a reference. I'll pay the royalties. LOL. I also bought the JD2 bender a while back and am still awaiting the backordered die. On your winch box, is the top plate resting on the frame rails or are your side plates holding it up to the grill. I have a 2" body lift and would like the winch a little higher than the frame rails, but am concerned with strength. JT

6.2: I have about 40 bucks in the tube and the plate I used. I bought a bunch of tube at the time so it came out to about $2.15 a foot. From what I can remember somewhere between 15 and 18 feet of tube were used in the bumper.

    Here's the POR link: <a target="_blank" href=http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/bendin_tube/index.html>http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/bendin_tube/index.html</a>

I'm designing something very similar to that as we speak. Slight different in some ways though.

6.2, I would guess, in materials, that all cost around like $100 to $150max or so.
ZZ 4x4, the winch mount does Not rest directly on the frame. For mine, I have a 1" body lift and I have a 4" gap between the frame and the front grill frame of the truck. So, I used 1/4" thick 8x3" angle iron to raise the mounting point 4", since the frame is like 4". Then weld on the 1/4" plate on to the angle iron (mount). Hard to explain without pics to show. I don't think strength is an issue with 1/4" thick material. Depends on your welding skillz as well :). Basically, you're just extending the frame out some with 1/4" stuff. Make sure you use atleast grade 5 bolts.

Boss, thats what I thought too!! I got quoted over $4.00 a foot for HREW becasue they didn't stock it. BUT, he said they had "thousands of feet" of DOM in stock, that's why it was so cheap. I should have bought a bunch (200+ feet), to get it down to a dollar a foot, but I don't need that much tube layin' around yet......

I agree with Steve, that's the best tube bumper I've seen on a K5. I see a lot of similar ones on Toyotas and I always wondered what they would look like on a K5. So how much are you gonna be selling them for[IMG]
