    I would say spend the extra $20 and get the second one.

    It seems the wider top would allow for upgrading to something bigger than the first would allow for.

    Just my 2 cents....

    If using it for automotive stuff, the second one would be better. The rod hanging down works great for pushing out u-joints and such. That would be plenty strong for anything you need automotive wise I can think of. Pinion bearings, u-joints, etc.

    I have the press shown in the second picture. The only bad thing about those presses are the 2 black plates. When I try and change U-Joints on them I have to firmly hold the Driveshaft and get some one else to use the press, simply because the plates WILL move during operation. I've actually had one shoot off the stand before.
