    New K5 Can\'t get in 4 lo

I've had my 81 k5 for two weeks, I can't get it in 4 lo. I did it a week ago, is there some kinda trick like pushing down on the shifter or what? Do I lock the hubs before or after shifting in?

If it has manual locks, lock them BEFORE shifting into 4WD. Try driving it forward or reverse (for very, very short distances) and see if that "loosens" things up a bit.

    Hey Blues...

Ya found us! Now do us all a big favor and fill out yer profile. [IMG]

We like to view profiles to gain some info on what you drive exactly and where you live roughly...

If I recall, you have an 81 K5 with a NP 208...does your shifter need to be pushed to one side as you're pushing it into low range? Like a detent? Its been quite a while since i last had a 208...

My tranny has to be in neutral to get the transfer case into 4lo. Also, make darn sure you get it into 4lo, especially if you are in a bad spot. On the first good wheelin trip I took my K5 on, (I won't mention all the stupid mistakes I made by going) I was on the side of a mountain on an incline when I decided to shift into 4lo. Felt like it had gone in, but I found out different when I let off the brake. Had to clean my shorts after that.

I was screaming through a mud pit one day with a female friend when the "adult female dog" kicked my truck into neutral. Boy did that ever piss me off....my tach must have hit 6500. My friends said they couldn't believe I didn't blow the motor up.
