I just got the new motor in and it ran great for about 20 minutes. Just idling and running it up to 2000-2500 for awhile per the break in instructions. I shut it down and changed the oil and replaced the water in the radiator with anti-freeze.

Then I cranked it back up and after a few minutes it started to make a squeling sounded like a bad belt or bearing. I thought maybe a bad fan cluth (only part reused, all new accessories) I took the belt off and restarted the blaze and after 30 - 40 secs the squeling came back. when I shut the motor off it still squels 3-4 secs after the crank stops turning, my tought of a bad fan clutch. That's why I took off the belt to rule out the front accessories. I now think it may be the torque converter, which was replaced 6 months ago when I had the tranny rebuilt. I took the inspection cover off the tranny and listened down there, it sure sounds like it coming from there but it's hard to tell. If I shut the motor off and the torque converter stops spinning it will still make the squelling sound for 3-4 seconds. I think the torque converter is the only other part that keeps spinning internally after the crank stops turning. I'm headed to the tranny shop tommorow. The only other thing I noticed is that the tranny gets really hot. I could touch the oil pan but not the torque converter.

The only other thing I did was hook the external oil cooler up when I changed the oil. I had it plugged before. It shouldn't matter which line got hooked where should it. I am getting about 30 PSI of oil pressure.

Did you check the starter to see if it's dragging? I had one hang up on me, and it drove me batty trying to find out what the hell the squealing under the truck was.

I'm so poor I can't even pay attention [IMG]

I'd be pretty hacked too - I think you are right, it's got to be the converter - What a %$!@^& drag!

Hmmm. sounds like you're on the right track to me. Keep us up to date on it. I like the combination you got. I've got some q's for you if you can PM me. Want to know about the intake you got to work for the MPFI and the vortech heads.

Boy was I way off and very STUPID!!!!! The new motors valve covers have the same two grommets as the 90 motor did except the one on the drivers side is bigger than original.
It's where the tube from the TBI/Air Cleaner plugs in. So I didn't have any larger hose or spacers to make up the difference but I did have a pcv valve laying around and stuck it in there. Looked graet and fit both the valve cover and the tube running to the TBI.
I took it to the guys who rebuilt my Trans and they removed the torque converter sound was still there. On the way home to pout I stopped by my exhaust guys place to set up a time to finish the exhuast. He looked at it and said you have a vacuum problem. He reached in and loosed the oil filler cap and whoosh the sound went away. Go figure a guy who only works on exhaust firgured it out!!! I owe him at least a 12 pack.....
What I did was create a very large vacuum to my new motor.

I sure hope I didn't hurt anything on my new baby!!!
