I had the stock generic GM crate. It wasn't a bad motor until it lost the oil seals on the rear two driver side pistons.(15K or so). I was warrentied (sp) and my Dad had it upgraded to the 300HP Crate. Well worth the extra $. It still has the EGR and all the emissions crap too. Also I added true duals, K&N filter, and MSD ignition system. It runs like a champ now. I burn a little oil (30K on motor) but nothing much. The 300HP crate hauls my Jimmy around pretty well. I am happy with it.

My Chevy isn't broken, its just out of gas.

well that is the motor I have in my Nova, but that same motor now, is the 330 hp, and has the Vortec heads, whereas the 300 hp motor did not (at least mine doesn't). so, one of my concerns, is there an intake for these heads that has the EGR provision. And, I've not had a single problem with my 300 hp motor either.
