    Hi
New to this forum. I will be looking at a 74 Jimmy tomorrow. I saw the posts about the cracked frame problem.
Is that very common when oversized tires are used???
please let me know of anything else I should look for.

    thanks!

Welcome to this site. Yes, cracked frames around the steering box is a common problem with GM frames. In the later years GM even added extra support in that area. It is more of a common problem once the vehicle is lifted and has larger tires installed. www.offroaddesign.com sells the necessary supports to help alleviate this problem.

Yep it's pretty common at the steering box also look for rust in the rockers and look under the carpet up front where you'd put your feet for rust also chekt to see if the engine and tranny mounts are rotted...All I got right now...

ORD has a good set of reinforcement plates and a crossmember brace to help with that problem. I have them on my 89 and so far so good!! /forums/images/icons/wink.gif
