    Whaaaa...??

Is this something documented when you registered the vehicle? If so, you might be screwed, if not, you might be able to get it tossed, but don't bet on it.

note: Just Jersey buddy, I really just hate that state :D

Pretty certain they just have you drive through some cones to prove stability. Yunit would know better than I.

There are a few special inspection places for that, though I am not sure where they are. They check for mud flaps, tire coverage, and stability. I have never gotten it done and never gotten the ticket though. Nor anybody else I know. What town did this happen in? Only time I ever got hasseled about it was in Maine, but since the truck isn't regestered there he couldn't do anything.

I disagree, MN doesn't have any way shape or form of vehicle inspections.

I think it's more like east coast latte sipping liberals for ya. :p:

its no big deal. i know they have one around me in asbury park. my buddy just went through it. they measure from the ground to bottom of the rocker panels and do a couple of other dumb tests, give you some paperwork and a sticker and your on your way.

I live in NJ and have for years. (Not defending the state) however I only have one inspection sticker. Just drove the 89 suburban through with no problems 2 months ago.

NJ sucks for emmisions, but never heard of stability? They do stick the truck on a dyno and then on a suspension tester.Basically a plate that vibrates back and forth to test worn bushings, bearings, that sort of thing as well as brake pressure front and rear when stopping.

Other than the first guy driving onto the dyno at an angle and telling me there is a transmission problem because the truck is "bucking " at high RPM. I watched the right rear spin on the drum while the left rear tried to catch the corner of the drum and the concrete floor at the same time. Supprise supprise the left wheel would make the truck buck forward when it caught the concrete instead of the drum roller. I argued the point but had to drive around the block and go back to another tester who was smart enough to drive straight onto the dyno with both wheels spinning smoothly on the drums. For some reason the truck did not "buck" any more.

Other than that I am good for another two years. woo whoo

i read in one of the other posts, the lift laws from the nj dot.
the first sentence states that any vehicle "over 4 inches from stock" needs all this extra "attention"
i installed a 4" lift, it's not "over" 4 inches so should i be ok??

yes it is this is why you have larger tires stock 31 you 35 1/2 of 4" is 2'' taller add the 4'' lift now it is 6in this is what the cops say and the insption station say - good luck

ok, i just talked to one of the shops that does this stability test and they say that you need this done if you lift your truck 4" or more
whatever raises your truck 4" over stock
who can tell me what the original stock height of the '89 k5 is?????
