Sounds like a good reason to build yourown, and while you're at it, build in more power then the factory did.

completely makes sense thought from their point of view, i mean think of how old the 350 actually is, sure there were changes here and there, but it was definately time to use technology to create new more efficient engines.
i'd be pissed about the lack of the 350 if chevy completely discontinued it, but you can still buy brand new 350 crate motors from chevy...

Who needs a 350 when they have the 366 available right from the factory? (6.0 Liter) /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif Of course, if that isn't enough for ya, there's always the 496 that can be ordered up in the 3/4 and 1 ton rigs. (8.1 Liter).

[/ QUOTE ] Only issue is the new engines aren't all that efficient, if you compare their horsepower to cui. numbers its not very impressive and many are notorious gas guzzlers. Helps that factory loves to mate everything like liek 4.10 gear ratios now and its almost impossible to find anything else on a dealers lot(really my dad and I tried when he was truck shopping). Also the engines powerband is right around where the 4.10 gear ratio puts it so even if you get a different geared one it will probably be a dog unless you have a nasty lead foot. My dad was thoroughly mad when he went to get a new truck and discovered he couldn't get a Chevy with a 350 anymore(coming from a 94 TBI 350). In the end he bought a Ford /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif oh well they were the best deal and only ones who had a truck with everything he wanted. Though so far the 5.4L gasser is far from impressive, as well as its tranny.

I guess he doesn't remember the late 70's and early 80's, when a 350 with a 4-barrel was rated around a totally pathetic 150 HP and was typically teamed with 3.08 gears in a vain attempt to get better mileage. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I remember this and I was hardly born! I think the new 5.3 (325CID) is a lame excuse for a replacement of the 5.7(350CID) I also wish people would not disgrace the old 327's by calling this new 5.3 one!

Get the 8.1, they're flat out fast. My moms new yukon XL has one and it's sweet. My dad and I are still trying to talk her into a lift and tires. Eventually my dad will get it, and it will be all over. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
