I was thinking last night as I was showing pics of my Jimmy, how long did it take you people to lift your trucks or blazers from the time you purchased them, and how long til you had your first damage.

I'll go first, I bought the Jimmy on a sunday, by that next saturday I had it in a ditch full of water and lifted by the next weekend. so about 7 days for damage and 14 for the lift.

My first damage came about 2 weeks after I bought it. I was playing in the mud and the rear end grabbed really funny and spun me into a tree. I then learned that a posi was put in the rear.......LOL. I lifted it 3 weeks later. It took me 4 months to put in the 4.56's..........Dan

I bought mine with a 4" lift and 35's. A couple months later I hit the gas too soon and too hard coming around a gravel covered corner going into a hill climb and totally smashed in the left rear fender and ripped off part of the bumper (spray painted it to keep it from rusting is the only repair) 2 years after purchase I destroyed the front 44. It's been sitting for 2 years. 4 years after purchase, I am putting about 7" of lift and 40" tires as soon as I find a D60 and save up for the tires and rims. Soon...soon...

    That's because I'm the devil.

M y Blazer came with a 4" lift and a 3" body lift and 33s.Within a week I had swapped out the 4" front springs with new spring packs I had made using a combo of other springs we had layin around .It came out to about 4" and they were way soft.Took it out to see how it worked and it flexed too well.I crunched the rear corners of my front fenders and cut one of my front tires to the steel.I never thought I would get the 33s to hit with 7".No big deal but I got the damage the same day I redid the lift.So I would say about 5 days for the lift and damage.

I had my truck about one year when I did the first 3" lift with add-a-leaves and blocks.

Had it a little over a year when I got the 4" kit on.

First damage was just about 2 months ago when some old man ran into my bumper and didn't hit any sheetmetal. I am getting another perfect bumper for free. I have never hit anything off-road, thank God. And I never will, I don't think. I am considering retiring it from trail work. I nearly rolled it more than once (especially the one time) when I've had all 4 wheels off the ground and came down hard at an angle. Thank God again for soft Rancho 4" springs!

I've also had 3 sets of axles under my truck. The original 10 bolt rear took a @#$#@ one day because the front pinion nut came loose and the ring gear at the pinion and vice-versa. It had 2.73 gears anyway. Then I swapped in a 10 bolt/12 bolt combo from a K5 with 3.08s because I had thought I had 3.08s before. I went back to the junkyard, got the matching front, and swapped that under. Three months later I blew up the 12 bolt and my 35s stopped me from 45 mph in about 50 feet. That happened because I put the 10 bolt yoke on the 12 bolt because I knew I was getting the 3/4 ton axles and I needed my truck to go get them. So anyway, I had the 3/4 tons around when my 12 bolt went, I had the truck towed to my house, the 14 bolt semi floater went under. It has 4.10 gears. That was a few months ago. Last Friday my 3/4 ton front axle went in with 4.10s. Now I've got matched gears again! So in the process I've had mis-matched gears twice, and only knew right away the 2nd time. The first time I had no clue. But when I had 2.73 fronts and 3.08 rears I put 31s on the front and 35s on the back. It looked stupid but if you do the calculations it made my gears match nearly perfectly so I could use 4wd in the snow.

That's why I hate swapping axles so much and if I ever do it again it'll be only a 14 B FF and Dana 60 going under there.

I baught a '69 landcruiser, trailerd it down to a wheelin' spot and rolled it (just laid it on it's side, not to bad). I also lost my wallet with $500 cash and a pay check. All in the same day, the wallet was maild back to me, and the Land Cruiser hasn't move much since then (clutch slave cyl.)

I bought mine with a really funky 4" already on it - Changed to a Superlift about a week later. First damage victim was the front driveline - I tried using it as a nerf bar to push a rock out of the way[IMG].

If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all[IMG]

How about this one. Bought my Jimmy and drove it home and then to a friends house. From there we went to a local wheelin spot and got it buried with water covering the floor... My friend had to walk a few miles to a bar and got one of his buddies to come pull us out!!!!! All that on the first night I bought it.

I waited a little while beofre I lifted it though, about 4 months.

Wow, you are taking us back to yesteryear! I bought my K5 about 6 years ago. The very first weekend I had the Blazer stuck on some public ground near Columbia, MO. I tried to get it unstuck with a friend's S-10 4x4 truck with no luck. I had to call a local farmer and have him drive a 4wd Farm Tractor back there and unstick my K5. Damage was a bent rear bumper, factory tow hitch, and bent running boards, thats right - I didnt remove them till the following week! After that came the 4" lift and other mods have slowly came along over the years. I have had everything from 31" BFG Mud Terrains, 33"x16.5"wide Dick Cepek Fun Country Radials, 35" Wild Country Radials to finally my 37" Boggers. The axles have been geared and re-geared, broken shafts, broken dif's, broken ring gears (huh Todd?), dents, and more. The K5 served as a daily until '98; even then it has periodically been my daily driver. My latest craze is to install 6" springs up front, 4" rear springs with shackle flip, Hydraulic Clutch, new motor (been saying that for years), Crossover Steering, On board air, new shocks and shock towers, rocker guards, and more! Thanks all for sharing your stories.
