i WANT to know what gear ratio gmc /chevy suburbans ran for 1983 rears normally?

and What about using a VAN rear end? are these chevy counterparts as tough? do you ahve to reset the spring perches to use them ? What have you all found as far as use of these rears?

I don't think there is a "normal" ratio for Chevy trucks. The ratio could be an 2.73, 3.08, 3.42, 3.73, 4.10, or 4.56. I believe the 4.56's were "mostly or only" found in some 1 tons, the 4.10's were generally only 3/4 or 1 tons. The 3.08's and 3.42's do seem to be the most common available in junk yards for the 1/2 ton stuff.

In 1986, a 3/4 ton suburban came with 3.42 gears. If you wanted anything else, it was a costed extra.
