Lately I have noticed that when I shut down my 78 Jimmy I can smell gas fumes pretty strong. Not all the time, just some of time. I checked the fuel line going up to the carb and it is dry and I dont smell anything under the hood. It seems like its all around the gas tank. I replaced the gas cap and one of the rubber return lines with no luck.
Is this normal or do I have a small leak somewhere?

    Thanks.

Check your fuel lines coming off the tank.

I had the same problem last summer for about a week before I noticed the pool of gas in the driveway as I backed out.

The return line was dry rotted.

If that is the problem, it's a really cheap fix. The only problem is that you will most likely have to drop the tank.

As long as you are at it, replace ALL the rubber fuel lines under there.

I kinda figured I would have to drop the tank, I was only worried about it catching on fire /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif Dont want that to happen!
    Thanks.
