If you put one trans in 1st gear and the other in 1st gear you have a double low. Or 1 in hi gear and one in 1st 2nd 3rd its like the 2nd isnt there and its a normal reduction. Get the picture? Basicly it would give a seemingly unlimited # of gear combos to choose from. I think I got that right. It sounded good in my head but not sure if it comes across right.[IMG]

Think about the ORD Doubler, but instead, it's the Quintupler! [IMG]

In Florida, using double trannies was done quite often for swamp buggies. It gets the overall gear ratio down to where you can use those super tall tractor tires without trying to find 25:1 axle gears. [IMG] (I'm talking about the real swamp buggies that run around in places like the Everglades, not those skinny-tired racers that basicly just run in deep water).

That they are. Are you from Fla Harry?? The swamp buggies are the only reason I knew how they worked. I have never seen one in person but have been told about them by a friend who used to hunt in the 'glades.

Yep, grew up in Ft. Pierce and went to school at Tampa Tech. Left Florida 2 weeks after I graduated. [IMG] That was, uh, a long time ago! [IMG]

I've seen the swamp buggys on T.V., the racers with the tall skinnies. Kind cool- way different animal.

Whats the genneral specs on the "real" swampers?

$2,500 bucks for the one linked, with a spare set of 2 1/2 ton axles, kinda sounds like a deal to me. Even if it's ruff. Nowhere to run something like that around here tho'.

Basicly a "real" swamp buggy is what ever you have laying around that you can combine to make something that will run. And run DEEP! They arent pretty or high tech, just big and brutal. Am I right in that description Harry?

Well lets just say that the buggies are waterproofed and have REAL tall snorkels on them.

I think he means 10-12 springs. It doesn't look like it has that much body lift. If it is a 10-inch body lift, someone's gotta be smokin' crack to drive that thing off pavement at all... It does look pretty cool, though.
