I'm getting ready to do my axle swap. The new front axle has lock outs, as where my old one doesn't. Just wanting your opinions, would you stay full time, or convert to part time with a NP-203 ???? Maybe in a couple years a NP-205 will find it's way under my truck, but for now it's just the 203.

How many miles do you put on your truck in a year? If its not many, less than 10-15000 I would leave it full time. I think it would be worth it to have the better winter handling.

Last year I didn't put on hardly any (less then 2500). But I will be useing it for fairly long road trips after I get it built up the way I want. It's only 500 miles or so down to Omaha, and I want to go visit some friends. Be kewl to show off the K5 to all them.

i would convert it to part time if i was you. It saves on gas mileage and you also get a 2 low. i have a 203 with a part time kit and am very happy with it. /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif

I think I would leave it full time till you got a front locker with the type of winters you have up there.

    Paul,

I just took apart 2 NP203 cases, and I think both of them had "part time" kits in them.

I'd mail you all the hardware if you pay for shipping... /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif

This is my second winter here in SD. To be honest, the wenters here at the foothills of the Black Hills are nothing. They get pretty nasty about 100 miles east of here, but and snow will melt in a day or so where I'm at.

I went to school with a guy who had a part time 203 that blew apart on him while we were wheeling. Something in the kit blew apart and caused this massive chain-reaction inside of the case that ended with the chain making an appearance outside of the case. We put in a regular stock 203 and replaced the chain, and have since wheeled the wee out of that truck with no more case problems. Could've been a fluke that it blew up like that... could've been the part time kit... I don't know 100%

I don't have any pictures of it, but it did happen. After the diff in the rear of the case broke and the truck would no longer move, on the tow home it whipped the chain out the side of the case. But what do I know... I was only there.
