Due to the fact that my NP203-case leaks at the front output shaft, I have to replace the seal.
Is there something special considering the replacement?
Should I use grease or engine oil around the seal lips?
Is it necessary to put some kind of sealant (silicone?) around the outer edge of the seal?
I havent replaced a transfer case seal before, so any help is appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

I replaced that seal on my 79 about 3 years ago I think it was around $15.00 at GM . It was pretty easy I unbolted the drive shaft and the houseing that holds the seal and took it to the shop to have it pressed in.

if you don't want to pay to have it pressed in go to a local steel shop and dig through their scrap pile to find a pipe that fits the outer diamater of the seal. have them cut it to about 6 inches in length then hammer on the end of that to drive the seal into the Xfer case.

Did you use any kind of sealant around the outer edges of the seal (e.g. RTV-Silicone)?

Most seals that you buy nowadays have a sealant already applied to the OD.
