I have a '79 with the 203 and auto hubs still in it. Just wondering if the auto hubs actually do anything when i shift into hi or lo loc or not. Do i have to back up to engage/disengage?

    uh-oh

If your truck has the original "hubs" from the factory, your hubs are actually drive flanges that are always locking your axles to the wheels. A 203 that is stock , is a full time 4x4 transfer case that's always in 4 wheel drive. A 203 has a differential inside it to allow for slipping on the road. When you shift into a "loc" ,(high or low), you bypass the diff. and the transfer case locks down in a regular 4wd mode. Backing up will do nothing. Steve

Are you sure it's an "auto hub"? you may want to take it off and see for sure. Maybe somebody did some "customizing"- YUK.....Otherwise, it's a full time hub, like titanic said..
