how can I positively identify an NP205 transfer case as such? And while I'm on the subject... how do I identify NP208s and NP203's? Are there plates on them or stampings? Do I have to decipher serial numbers? Any help will be much appreciated.

205s are easiest to identify. Here is a pic of a 205 I sold awhile back.

thanks guys, I'm going to look at a truck and I wanna be able to know exactly what is going on. Powermad, that link you sent me was very useful, as it also included info on Tranny identification. Thanks both of you
