    Ok, need some help here.
I was putzing around today on the rig and decided to go for a little test drive around the block. Everything was good till I grabbed the t-case handle and tried to slip it into 4hi at about 20mph. All I got was grinding... I had to totally stop before I could shift it into 4hi. BTW, this is with the hubs unlocked. Now... I am almost positive I have done this before and been able to. A buddy stopped by and said that there is no way I should be able to without the front shaft turning ie: hubs unlocked, but I still think I have done it before.
Is there a possible problem with my 205? Or am I haveing a brain fart and on crack??

I feel like Im losing my mind! Help! /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif

I know it works fine w/ the hubs locked. It would make sense that you wouldn't be able to do it w/o the hubs locked because the front won't be spinning. That means there is nothing to sinkro the gears.

I think thats where I am confusing myself... because it does make sense that you shouldnt be able to. But I know I have never heard any gears grinding before.... maybe I havent ever done it... dunno any more. hehe.
It may be the fact that I have never went to 4hi... I have used 2lo before but you have to be stopped to engage that. Oh well... guess its not a problem. Whew. /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif

I run my hubs locked all winter and I shift mine in and out at about any speed with in reason.I just back off the gas and shift it in or out it don't seen to mine.
Maybe with the hubs un locked the front not turing might cause a grind till the drive shaft ketches up.sure you didn't try to grab 4l. sometime between our trucks at work and mine I wan't to shift the transfer case wrong.
Hell sometimes after being in the loader all day I'll grab my turn signal and try to shift thats the side the loader shifts on . /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif

There are no synchros in a 205 so it will grind going from 2Hi to 4Hi unless the front hubs are already locked in. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif If the hubs are locked then you can switch back and forth easily. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

with hubs locked you can shift into every gear position 'on the fly'

some 205s have syncros, auto hub versions IIRC

Don't try shifting to low range on the fly! /forums/images/graemlins/yikes.gif

    why not?
it is just a transmission with about 2:1
so you either double or half your rpm to shift
as long as you do it clutchless it isnt hard

ive don't it many times up to 20mph

just with an auto stift into neutral first, push clutch in with stick

ive only done it with 208s though /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif
