I have the oportunity to buy an NP205 to replace my NP208 that i currently have in my 83' blazer. I have a 4 speed transmission I am pretty sure its an SM465. I have the option of buying a transfercase/sm465 combo that mate together but i would rather not spend the extra $400 bucks they want for the SM465. What i am looking for in the best guess on what the output shaft on my current SM465 looks like so i can mate it up correctly to the NP205. Based on the stock 83'blazer configuration. I have looked at the NP205 tech sheet on offroad designs site but i still have my doubts. Thanks in advance

the 465 came with either 10spline or 32 spline output shaft. i think he 32spline version came in 3/4 and 1ton version. most likely ( 90% sure ) you have a 10spline output. all you would need is the np205 Xcase Adapter and the np205 Xcase itselft.

you mean they want $400 for the sm465?? does it have gold in it or something??
FYI: 2wd and 4wd versions of the 465 are the same!!

The output spline on your sm465 is 32.
the input on a 205 that is hooked to a sm465 is 10.
Buy the combo. 400 for the tranny is steep.
I bought the same setup 6 weeks ago from another CK5'r for 300. including clutch stuff and rear driveshaft. Talk them down some or look around some more.
You will need a new rear driveshaft with a slip on the shaft not a slip yoke like you currently have.

    Good luck

    Big_B_Murphy,
i thought they came in pairs, that is if the output was 32 the input was also 32 OR if the output was 10 so was the input. i have not seen a sleeve with both typs of "cuts" inside the sleve. but then again, i have not run across one.

i belive the 32 spline output came out in 81?? so it could be possible.

Thanks i am putting in a D70 in the rear i am trying to gather everything up for my drivetrain/suspension so as not to fiddle with adjusting the drive shaft length more than once. I got some clarification on the pricing the guy wants $250 for the NP205, $100 for the Sleeve?(between the SM465 and the NP205) and $400 for the Tranmission. so $750 for the whole mess which i might consider if it is the 1 ton spline setup. The prices seem resonable for the transfer case but yeah $400 for the transmission is quite high and/or the guy selling it is high. Side note he also has a couple D60 front ends laying around WOO HOO! gonna look at those too!

465 from 81 up has the 32 spline output. This does not mean that the output yokes on the t-case are 32 spline.

You definately want to get the pair. Adapters are expensive.

Depending on the year of the 465/205 it could be 32 spline and if it is you could use the 205 with the trans you have now. The 32 spline 465/205 came in later trucks, typically '85 or later. If the 205 has a round bolt pattern and not a figure 8 type pattern, it will most likely be 32 spline.
You have a 32 spline. All 465's with 208's had 32 spline. Till '85 or so 465's with 205 came with 10 spline and the drivesleeve.

If it is a 32 spline 205, get it and the adapter housing and run, you've struck gold. Doesn't sound like this is the case since he says it has a drivesleeve. The 32 spline has no sleeve.

thanks for the education i am new to this. But now i think i have the information i need to know what i am looking at. So basically i have a 32 spline output shaft from my sm465 so what i am looking for is a 32 spline female short(or long for that matter that i can swap out with a short from you guys without machineing the case) Worst case i buy whatever configuration then get the case machined and new input shaft. It sees that would be cheaper than buying the the matched pair.

I am sorry if I wasn't very clear. After 81 or so the sm 465's were mated to 208's. They used 32 splines for that. The earlier sm465's thet were mated to 205's have 10 splines. Hence my statement that smartpatrol's 465 would have 32 splines and wouldn't connect to a 205.
