NP205 swap q\'s

Since i blew up my buddies np208, i was wonderin how hard it would be to swap an np205 in the truck.I did a search and came up short. i have a complete sm465 205 setup, and since the truck had an sm465 and np208 i wondered what id have to change. I know about the t case linkage, and rear drive saft, but what about the front driveshaft?? is that the same? or does it need to be changed too.

If memory serves, the spline count in the tranny attached to the 208 is higher, so you would want to replace the whole deal with the new tranny and case. I think that the 208 has a slipyoke rear shaft, the 205 could be slip or fixed, and I think that the 208 assembly is longer overall, so the front shaft would need to be lengthened and the rear would need to be shortened to go to the 205. Lots of I thinks in there, but the gist is that it's probably not going to be a simple bolt in deal.

I agree with shaggy. Your gonna have to swap the whole thing in. The splines are different.

i figured on swapping the whole deal in, i was just more concerned about driveshafts. I know the rear needs to be legnthened and have a yoke put on, but the front almost looks identical.

If you have a 32 spline 465/205 combo, then the swap will go perfect. These were made available in 85 when they went to the hydro clutch. If you have the older 10 spline model, then just swap the whole thing in.
