Every once in a while when driving in 4Hi, my transfer case seems to slip out of gear and start grinding, (real nasty noise) I have to turn the truck off to put it back into gear (putting in P or N doesn't do it) - any ideas?

Go take a look under and check the t-case's 4 bolts that mount to the tranny. I was so freeken stupid, after putting on a 2.5 inch lift, and after 18 years of service the four bolts had loosened up. Enough that they were only finger tight "FINGER TIGHT" It caused the t-case to pop while in 4hi and low. and even when in 2. I put on a crap load of Lock Tight. and no problems since.
    Good luck.

    DANGIT it's not a bronco!
Edited by DuneRunner on 08/14/01 12:30 PM.

Mine pops out of low a lot, I don't use 4 high, when it happens I put the trans in nuetral and give firm yank on the t-case shifter. Just do it quick.
