I have a 1985 with a 700r4/NP208. The NP208 is kaput, cracked housing. I have access to free NP241 from a 1990 solid axle Blazer (also 4sp auto - 4L60E? I'm not sure what the last year was for the 700r4). Does anyone know if the NP241 will bolt up to my 700r4? I was thinking of getting the slip yoke eliminator kit if I do the swap. Or should I stick with a NP208? Which t/c is better?

    TIA
    Tom

If I'm not mistaken the 700R4 and the 4L60 and the 4L60E are the same transmission, except the 4L60E is electronically controlled. I would think as long as you got the adaptor that goes with the 241 you should be alright. I don't know if there is much of a length difference between the 208 and the 241, you may need different driveshafts.

You'd better check on the spline count for the 700R4 output shaft and the NP241 input. Otherwise, you should be able to tell by looking at the two 'cases whether or not you can use the 241.

"They tell me that you can make it to work without big tires. I'm still not convinced."

Well, I don't know about the difference in spline counts in different year models. But I have a 90' with the 4L60 (no E) and a 241. Came stock. Don't know if this will help you. Call advance adapters and ask them. They will be able to tell you.

Don't you buy no ugly truck!

YES! It is a bolt in replacement. Both 700s used 27 spline output shafts, and IF that 241 came from a 700 equipped truck, then it too has the 27 spline female input geat. The differences were if a TH400 tranny was used, in either 208 or 241 application they were 32 spline. I am in the process of figuring out if the 32 spline input gear from my junk 1985 208 case will work in a 1990 241 case...as I am throwing away the 700 tranny and replacing it with a 400 trans and need the 32 spline female gear.

Re: Ken, Don\'t Toss that 700!

I am in Anaheim, CA. The 700 is toasted, only has first and second gear, and is not out yet. I am so frigging sick and tired of this thing that I am finally installing what should have been in there in the first place...a TH400! This is the 6th 700 in 224,000 miles, and this Sub tows nothing!!!

Re: Ken, Don\'t Toss that 700!

    Ken,
I am in Phoenix and am looking for a 700 builder. I am not ready to slap one in but if I could pick one up for cheap I would be interested. I can wait for you to take the 700 out but how much do you want for it? I can pick it up personally since the drive from Phoenix is short!

What kind of power do you have behind the 700? Was it rebuilt stock?

    Thanks for any info

The 241 may have a speed sensor instead of a speedo gear. If thats the case, you'll need to get an ext. housing from an 89 or have yours modified... /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

I would say that the 241 is the better 'case of the two since you can get a SYE kit for it...

Yes. The 241 and 208 input gears are NOT interchangeable. I bought a new 32 spline input for my 241 from Parts Mike. Took about 1/2 an hour to install the new input, then the transfer case bolted directly where the 208 came from (behind TH400). No more worrying about frying 700s!!! I LOVE IT!!!

Overdrive... I'm in Mesa, I've got 2 working 700's, depending on which one I use when I swap my TBI, I'm gonna get rid of one of them... /forums/images/graemlins/deal.gif..
