What all is needed to change over a NP241 with VSS to a mechanical speedo? Is it just about getting rid of the buffer ring and installing a gear and maybe changing the tail housing? Also if anyone has the needed parts I have a friend who is looking for this.

someone swapped out the 208 and replaced it with a 241 on my 85 K5 before I got it. It is a 89' 241 with the mechanical speedo. I would find an 89' 241 and use the tailhousing off of it.

Well, I also have an 89 blazer with the NP241 but my friend has a little later NP241 with the VSS and needs whatever parts it takes to convert it to a mechanical speedo. Would you guess that my friend is the owner of a tranny shop. /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif I told him I would see what it takes to convert his to mechanical and if anyone has the needed parts. I also know that 89 was the first year for the NP241 and also the only year of NP241 with the mechanical speedo.

I changed a '91 700R4 241 over to work with my '89 400/241. The '91 uses the VSS, and the '89 used mechanical. I also had to swap the "inout shaft" assembly between the two cases.

I just swapped over the tail housings, and swapped the ring for the gear while I was tearing thru the case. It was really pretty easy.

Let me know if you have any questions... I'll help ya out anyway I can! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
