The 465 needs rebuilt. Anyone convert to a nv4500? Where
does the shifter line up?

I also would like to convert to NV4500 someday. My 465 is making disturbing noises, and I miss the overdrive that the 700R4 gives me in my other truck.

I know of some guys who have done it, but it ain't cheap.

I'll be watching this thread with interest.

I took a few measurements. My NV4500 has the center of the shift tower 9" back from the edge of the bellhousing. As near as I can tell the SM 465 is about 5" back from the bellhousing.

The stock bellhousing for a NV4500 won't work in our trucks. The slave cylinder is on the passenger side and apparently will interfere with the front driveshaft. I plan on modifying a SM465 bellhousing...the alternative is a bell from Advance adaptors.

I plan on going the advance adapter route. Just concerned about the trans shifter conflicting with the t-case shifter. Do you have your's installed?

Nope...still rebuilding it.

Sparky87K5 is running a NV4500 with either a 208 or a 241 in his Blazer. If he doesn't see this thread maybe send him a pm.

I run the 208 and after moving the hole in the floor back 5" for the trans shifter, I had to move the TC shifter back about 3". Otherwise, the large 208 shifter cover is in the way of the trans cover plate and boot. I trashed the plastic 208 cover plate, kept only the rubber boot and made a new cover plate of aluminum for the boot. Very easy job, really don't need the plastic cover plate to tell you where you are in the shift pattern, at least I didn't. Looks cleaner too. Can send you a picture if you like. All in all, it's a pretty easy job.

Thanks for the info. Any pictures would be great. I have the benchseat, so I also have to make sure the t-case will clear the seat. Did it affect you driveshafts, or is the overall lenth the same?

Will take some pics and post them for you. Stock K5 driveshaft worked fine for rear but front was shortened because I swapped in D60 and 14BFF at same time. My 14BFF uses same size U-joint as 3/4 & 1/2 ton trucks, so no problem for stock driveshafts. Since then I have lifted my truck 4" and can still use stock driveshaft as a spare for emergency use only. Had a custom CV joint version built with dropped TC and rear axle pointed at TC. Still not perfect, TC leaks at slip yoke and have tried 3 different seals. Now plan on conversion to GM/Dodge 208 with bolt on CV joint driveshaft. I'll get those pics done today.

How hard was it to adapt the NP208 to the NV4500? What was involved? Nice work with the install of the shift, and stuff. It is very clean.

Any 32 spline 208 or 241 will bolt right up to the GM NV4500. I've been told that a late model 32 spline 205 with the circular bolt pattern will also bolt right up.

Be very careful about which NP205 you try to bolt up to the NV4500. I have a '91 crewcab with SM465/NP205 - this NP205 has about a 3" long female input shaft. It will not bolt up to the NV4500; the splines bottom out with the 205 and NV4500 about 2" apart.

Also noteworthy is the need to notch the round flange on the back of the NV4500 for shift rail clearance

If you're serious I'll sell it to ya. Going to be near end of summer. Need to install gears and lockers first. Let me know.

Is it possible to mate a fixed yoke 205 to an NV 4500?
