We are planning a 7-9 October run to the badlands. From my group we will have 2 chevys, one Furd and possibly one Jeep.

Anyone else care to join. Post up or e-mail me at Brian(nospam)@brokentrucks.com
    --remove the (nospam)

On a side note, what should i expect since i have never been there before.
    -food
    -lodging
    -what trails to run...

    anything else i should know?

I might be able to make it out for at least one day, have to wait until it gets closer.

As far as food and lodging, I think the snack bar might be closed, haven't been there in a while, but there are fast food places and other restaurants in town.

Lodging - do you want to camp or get a hotel? Best bet is to look on the badlands website, they list the lodging available near the park.

As far as trails, the first question is how capable are the rigs in your group? Do you want to avoid body damage or do you want to risk some damage?

Orange is a good trail, but tight in spots, you could get some body damage.

Pink is another of the harder trails, but again, body damage is possible.

Green is a good woods and hill trail, if you pay attention and are careful, you can do it without body damage.

    Brian,
I could possibly come to play on Sat. the 8th and meet up with you guys. With chevys and fords it should be a good time. I've been to the badlands since it opened in 1998 for trucks so I can usually get around pretty good, as well can justin'.

I went to the badlands on July 4th and haven't been out since. Keep us posted on your plans, maybe a cell phone to hook up with.

I have the itch to wheel but the gas is still quite too much to head too far.

The pink trail is fun and have gotten wider over the years but body damage is still possible.

Like Justin said the green trail can be done without damage.

Thanks for all the info. We are not really looking for body damage, but two of us don't really care about it either way. As far as how capable our rigs are?? All we have ever run in is the mud and light trails. We will see i guess.

Unfortunately I will not be making it. I had a leak around the rim on one of my trailer tires yesterday, so I swapped on the spare, then blew the spare out fifteen miles from home. Hadn't aired up the other tire yet, so I drove the last 15 miles on the rim. Then to top it all off, there is one more tire flat on the trailer this morning.

So I am not sure I will get everything fixed before then, as I may buy a whole new set of rims and tires for the trailer.

I'll be a week early - going this Sunday.

Based on your decription of the rigs, try the Green trail first. It's a good time, but not too tough. If you want more after that, go to Orange. Stay out of the deep mud holes. Some of Orange is tight for full size rigs though. :waytogo:

Be prepared. Bring tow straps, spare tires, high lift, tools, fill up your tanks before, bring a flag for each truck (or you can buy them there).

You can camp at the Badlands, but I prefer Summer's Campground even though it's 8 miles away. Much better all around and 'wheeler friendly. I think there is a B&B in Attica too.

Last time I was there, the lunch place at the Badlands was open again.

    Good luck!

I'd bet you'll like Summers. Just to confirm - lunch place IS open. Plans changed, and my son and I rode the atv's Sunday and left the Jeep home. Looks like I'll be there again jeepin' this coming Sunday.

Yes, I sold my Dodge a couple weeks ago, and then bought this GMC. The Dodge was OK, but didn't have enough room in the extended cab for the growing kids, and was giving some problems. Went back to GM for a real crew cab and to try a Duramax. Dodge just doesn't have enough more room in the back seat, and of course Furd is not an option, especially for a diesel. I'm a Cummins fan, but this Duramax pulls hard and the Allison is really sweet. :thumb:

Good to hear you went with GM again. Working for Allison, there wouldn't be a choice for a transmission. Everything is way bigger and stouter, you shouldn't have any problems with that tranny.

Ryan, I will be there Sat. only, just too much to do. I added onto our house and I've got to much work to do.

    Weather looks good and cool.
