OE Dana Spicer hubs, won\'t seat! help with reinstall UPDATE WITH PICS!

My OE Dana Hubs won't seat. I can't get the allen bolts close enuff to the ring so that i can tighten it down. it is the dial itself that is stopping it.

i toon the dial out and put the outter ring that holds the hub on, and it would spin with the assembly!

so what have I done wrong??

    edit:

    Here are the pics:

    Here is my hub

Here is the "tits" on the "sproket" (no better terms for them) it seems that the dial would hit these to lock and unlock the hubs

here is the ring that the allen bolts bolt into. I removed the dial and made sure that fit, but it is spinning

did you try turning the dial to "lock" then screwing the bolts on?

i have the same hubs on my truck but i dont understand excatly whats going on. is the problem the screw wont reach long enough to get them threaded? or that they dont line up? or that the tit assembly is spinning?

first of all, it looks like there is way to much grease in there, if you push and pull on the tits, does it move the gear inside easily? look right from the pic but hard to tell.

with both tits out turn the hub, if the axle spins its locked which it should be. next push them in and turn the hub, the axle shouldnt spin. with them in far enough to unlock the hub you should be able to get the cap on

like was already said you have way too much grease in there.you should only have a light coat of grease on the the hub asymbly.if you cant get it warn hubs are only 60 bucks and much easier to use.. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Yeah, the two 'tits' being pushed in unlock the hub. If you look on the bcak side of the dial you'll see the ramp that pushes the tit's in. The lowest point of the ramp is what you want on the tits...which should be the locked position on the dial. Then you should be able to get the screws started.

    It looks right to me...

Spicers are much better hubs...you just need three hands to put them back together. My D44 Spicers are probably 25 years old and have never broke...

So very true. All Spicer hubs are the best hubs to use as far as strength and durability goes. If anybody has not seen a Spicer hub in pieces, they will immediately see where the beef is when compared to any aftermarket hub. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Re: OE Dana Spicer hubs, won\'t seat! help with reinstall UPDATE WITH PICS!

Yup, except for the hub dial (which in no way affects strength) the whole thing is steel...

The only problem I ever had was packing too much grease into mine once and they stuck (hint hint zakk) They just need a very light coat of grease to work perfectly and they're very easy to clean up good as new if they do get gummed up.

I'll eventually get Spicers for my D60 once I've blown up the Warn's.

Agreed on the plastic hub dial. /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif Those suck.

I just wished Spicer still makes these hubs new. I've only seen them on eBay a few times and also seen a few NOS hubs, too. The prices go thru the roof for the NOS hubs.

I've seen these factory Spicers taken apart and the 30 splines broached to 35 spline for new outer stubs. Those gears inside have a lot of metal on them. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

the grease is just smeared over it. I still have no idea what is keeping it from going on.

no one has pointed out any problems...

Wes, got a link or # for someone that is doing this. I'd rather run the Spicer hubs when I do the 35 spline coversion. Maybe use a D70 hub? (sorry for the hijack Zakk)

You can either buy the hubs already for sale or send yours to Off Road Unlimited and have them do the work. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Be warned that their Spicer hubs already with 35 splines are like $300 for a pair. /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif
