We just had a little shakeup at work, and as a result, I am on 24 hour emergency standby one week out of every every five starting today. I must be able to respond to any emergencies on a moment's notice, which means I have to stay close to the phone and not leave town. Worst of all, I cannot consume alcohol for the next 7 days.

I am sad. That is all.:(

Nope. A mucky muck high up in the company decided that we needed to include the grunts in the standby schedule.

Up until now, the service guys(furnace techs, pipefitters, etc...) handled the standby because 90% of the calls are appliance related, and the crew guys(including me) deal strictly with all the underground stuff. Said mucky muck decided it would be a good idea for guys like me to get some experience responding to non-pipe related callouts in order to "round out":surepal: our experience.

Of course, they make it worth my while- they pay me an extra $32 a day when I'm on standby......:surepal: :surepal: :surepal: :surepal:

Unless they were paying me for 24 hours.....I would drink all the beer I wanted to.

EDIT: we were typing at the same time.

And $32 is not near enough

    Ohhhh I see.......

I bet it's a conspiracy by the collected hot women of Canmore to start compromising gas lines in hopes that meat man called Can Can will come to service thier fixtures.

No ****. I DO get paid double time while I'm on a call, though. And of course, I'm new to this game so I have a feeling that most of the issues I run into might take a LOOOONG time for me to diagnose and fix.....

My point exactly. In case the bosses didn't catch on, work that requires finesse and precision just isn't my forte. I guess I could always take BFH to the first furnace or appliance I have a problem with- chances are I wouldn't be on standby much longer after that. :rotfl:
