I don't know what this thing is on my 77 small block. It is a little tube that runs from the top, rear, next to the distributor on the drivers side, and it runs through a hole in the firewall into the cab. It is in the same spot as my buddies oil pressure sending unit (I think), but it is just a little tube. How can that work?

It sounds like a mechanical oil pressure line. You probably have a guage in your truck instead of a warning light. It works by pushing the oil (up thru that little tube) to the guage itself. I prefer the mechanical guage over light because I can tell exactly what my motor is doing with the oil pressure.
