Ok, I decided it was time to fix the leaking tailshaft and seal on my 87 K5's tranfer case (350 tbi, 700R4,NP208)...figured while I had it down, I'd go ahead and chnage the tranny filter and fluid

when I dropped the pan, I was surprised to find 2 bolts laying in it /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif. (they were stuck to the magnet in the pan bottom, so maybe that helped keep them from doing any real damage).

when I got back under to see where they went, I found this solenoid looking thing hanging down. It inserts right next to where the filter goes. I put a little medium loctite on the bolts and re-mounted it.

Is this the Vehicle Speed Sensor? If not, what is it? If it is the VSS, could this possibly be why my cruise hasn't worked since I bought the truck?

    Here's a pic:

dang, the guy at the parts dept. at the dealer told me it is the torque converter lockup solenoid... I sure was hoping this was going to get my cruise control fixed. Oh well. Thought I was going to get to kill two birds with one stone.

I'm not positive but most likely, Torque converter clutch selenoid.
It operates the lockup torque converter.

    Yup thats the TC lockup.
I think on a 87 your VSS is located on the back of the speedometer.
