Drey is on the local fire department, and apparently a rendering truck wrecked, and he had to leave. WTF is a rendering truck? He said most likely chicken guts, but I'm 98% city boy and have no idea what the hell that is.

So, if anyone knows what a rendering truck is, please enlighten me, and then pray that Drey has to stay out until 5 a.m. scraping chicken guts off the highway. :haha:

From what I understand the trucks haul around dead things that they take to the rendering plant, grind them all up and turn them into fertilizer. Least I think it was fertilizer.

Yep, usually guts of some kind and they get made into fertilizer and pet food. Big time nasty smell, makes you want to barf. We do work for the local chicken packer and man they pull that stuff out and it reeks for a block in all directions.

Hog farmers and cattle farmers will call the rendering truck sometimes when they have a dead animal on the farms. The truck comes and picks them up.

State agencies may call them from time to time when there is a dead deer in the road causing traffic issues.

What they do with the stench I'd rather not know.

Kerts right, although with the number of packing plants around here both turkey and hog there are a couple 2 or 3 truck lines that run partially processed solids to other plants that grinds it up for fertilizer or feed(blood meal).

Looks of it...one of the rear dump trailers that rides up and down that black top alot(think semi trailer dump truck)about missed the corner off of highway 20 to turn onto M43(blacktop county road), and had to hit the brakes hard and take the corner fast. Wasnt any clean up really, just spray the highway down. Happens more then you think. They are tarped but there is enough liquids in with the solids the loads can surge fairly easily. It is pretty foggy here tonight also so that makes me think thats what happened.

And ya...it pretty pungent odor to it, my boots are sitting outside in the garage tonight.

thouse trucks also pick up grease and oil from resturants, there is a plant near where I used to live, and MAN ALIVE that was somthing else.

I worked with a guy who when in H.S. worked there unloading the trucks, in the spring a transport truck from every chick farm would drop off a full truck of dead chicks, and you could hear the chirping from the few hundred live ones that got shoveled in too.

We have a National By-Products plant here in Clinton that does mucho "rendering" you could say. If the wind blows right, the smell will hover around that part of town rather then head toward the Mississippi.:1zhelp:

Sometimes you will see one of their trucks with the dead, bloated bodies of cattle, hogs or whatever in the back with their rigor mortised legs sticking straight into the air.....good times....let me tell ya.:eek1:

Grew up on a Dairy Farm. Whenever a cow died ( for whatever purpose) Call up the rendering truck, staple a 10.00$ check to the ear 1-3 days later they come pick'er up.

I wouldn't want that job. Winch is in the front of the box, and somebodys gotta go fetch it everytime you pull something dead up there. Watched the guy do it many times. Barfola man,

I used to work right up the street from Modesto Tallow, a rendering plant. You guys may not realize how many products are made from that stuff. You have to think about glue, soap, gelatin, etc. Who's up for some Jell-o now? We always smelled the trucks go by, but when the wind sent us the smell from the plant, lunch was cancelled.
