Old question about backspacing with a D60 and 15\" rims

Okay, I will be getting a Dana 60 sooner or later, hopefully sooner. I have 36x14.50x15 tires. I plan on 15x12 rims . Will I need to do some caliper grinding with these rims ???

with 3.5" of backspacing, probably but just a little... shouldnt have to take to much material off at all.

one thing to consider... if your rotors/pads are old and worn the rims might fit just fine when you go to bolt them on. Down the road though if you replace em, they might not fit anymore because the calipers stick out furthest when the rotor/pads are brand spankin new.

I run 3.5" of B.S. on my D60, same as the rims listed. I wouldn't describe the amount of grinding to be 'just a little'...

I'd use 10" rims for those tires, and I'd say more than a little grinding is going to be required, but I could be wrong.

guess Im jaded by the experience of grinding 2 sets of calipers for 4.25" of backspacing (or was that 4.5?). /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif ok, its more than "just a little" but it still shouldnt be tooooo bad.

On a 3/4 ton front it's closer to 'just a little'. The D60 caliper, as you know, looses a fair bit of meat for rim clearance. The depth of the grinding doesn't change with more backspacing, just the distance in from the WMS.

I'll also second the 10" rim, but it's not my truck.

Im not looking at my calipers right now or anything, but as I remember them the slope upwards as the get further away from the WMS so if you have moe backspacing, wouldnt that result in a need to grind through a greater amount of material to get to the same "depth" ur talkin about? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

It slopes upwards from the WMS for the first 2.5-3", after that it's about as big as it gets.

hmmmmm... maybe ur right, its been a while so i forget. In any case, get 10" rims and quit being afraid of angle grinders. Assuming you keep your varuous parts clear, they wont bite!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If you think you know, and wouldn't say it to your mom, then you got it. Z3PR doesn't like "search" sugestions, it offends him.

2 months ago CK5 posted on the main page a step by step article w/pics on how to fit 15's on a D60. It was pretty informative, and for the most part accurate.
But hey what do I know.
    thanx
