Wonder what kind of explosives the truck was carrying?

Article says 35K of explosives. The video clip I watched on that site said 58K of explosives.

Honestly... for that much stuff, the crater's kinda small. I'm guessing a fair amount of the load didn't detonate, or it detonated low-order (not as powerful as it should/could have been).
They did say the bomb squad was picking up unexploded stuff for a few hours.
They also said the load came from a commercial mfgr. - that tells me it wasn't military ordnance. I could be wrong on that though...

Still a hell of a mess. Incredible that no one was killed. :eek1:

I used to live at the opening of that canyon. There is an explosives manufacturer in Spanish Fork at the mouth of the canyon. They've had some pretty big explosions at the plant. I'm glad I don't live their now -- that canyon will be closed for a while I imagine. :eek1:

I used to drive that canyon once a week, in a tractor-trailer usually pulling a pair of dry bulk tankers, 84 ft in length. when MT I could take the whole canyon bottom to top and back down the other side at better then 60, BUT... when loaded it was a no more than 40mph! it's just to steep for anything faster than that when loaded. that guy (driver) should be taken off the road. he is a menace!
