    OMG I\'m a complete tire/rim idiot- another ??

How do you know what size tire fits on what size rim?

for instance- the MT Baja Claw Radials- are 35x12.5Rx15

I know the 35 is the height- I think the 15 is the rim size- but what the heck is the 12.5???? does that mean the rim has to be a 15x12.5?? HELP>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

no, the 12.50 is the width,
    35 is how tall
12.5 is how wide, not necessarily the tread, but the widest part of the tire
    r is radial
    15 is rim size /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

usually the manufacture offers a recomended rim size for their tire
I run 15x10's with my 35x12.5x15 SSR's ...you can run them on 8 inch rims ( makes the tire taller )

okay- so I could get the tires- 35x12.5rx15 and run them on 15x8- have it be taller- or on the 15x10 and have the wider...are they just as "safe" on either one?

I think the 15x8's will keep them from sticking out too far, I don't want to go through more hassle at inspection time than I have to, I don't run fender flares..

    thanks guys

The 15x8 will be taller than a 15x10. I think the 15x10's will be more street friendly but it makes it wider, so the 15x8's maybe what you want if you dont want to run fender flares.

The 12.5 is the section width. I have my 36x12.5's on 15x10" rims and will be going to an 8" wide rim when they go on Donna's K5. The difference in hight is not that much since the spare is on an 8" wide wheel. I think the actual hight difference is less then an 1/8" between the 8 and 10" wheels.

I'm running 35x12.50x15's on my K5 on 10 inch wide wheels with 4.25 inches of backspacing. None of the tread sticks out past the fenders. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Im running 36x12.50's on a 15x10 rim. I wish Id went with a 15x8, I think they look better.
