Does anybody have one of these Welders, its basically a high amp alternator, with a box that you stick weld with? what are the pros/cons? is it worth the price?

    Thanks

I can answer the last question. I don't think it's worth it. I've done a LOT of 4-wheeling and can't think of a single time that anyone on any run needed to have something welded in order to get off the trail. I've heard of guys breaking the frame near the steering box on Jeeps, but it's never happened on a run that I was on. Proper preparation would have prevented those failures, since you can buy a steering frame brace for Jeeps (and K5's!). [IMG]

I'd rather put the $900 for the mobile welder into beefing the truck (or buying a serious MIG welder for the home shop!) I guess it really depends on your driving habits. I done mud in Florida and Texas, boulders in Colorado and Utah and slickrock in Moab. All without major breakage. Elegant driving is the key. If you beat the hell out of your rig and constantly break parts (that you could weld in the boonies and drive out on) then perhaps the mobile welder is just the ticket for you. I can think of other things to spend that $900 on that are more useful to me. [IMG]
