    One problem with TSL\'s..

While going to lunch with my g/f I stopped at a redlight. It was raining really hard. Light turns green I press the gas and start making my turn. Half way into the turn back end slides about 3 feet and I almost hit a van. Now I didn't punch the gas. I was taking the turn very slow. Now my next project will be to "sipe" the inside tread of my Swampers.Anyone had this problem? And will "siping" my tread help?

Did it just rain after not raining for awhile? The oil builds up on the road and then when it rains it get REALLY slick, I was in a wreck one time because of it...

It's been raining for a couple of day's now... And the intersection wasn't a busy one. I'm just saying what can I do to make these tires perform better in the rain? Is Siping them the answer? I never had a problem with my old SSR's in the rain.

Yes Siping helps with wet pavement traction... thatrs why SSR's never gave you problems on wet pavement. If cna always get a tireshop to doit for you if ytou want it done really nice. But it shouldnt be too hard

How many miles do you have on the TSLs? I know when I put new tires on my bike I have to buff them in before pushing it in the turns.

    Re: One problem with TSL\'s..

I had similar problems with my BFG MTs. Mine would struggle on the highway with heavy rain; really tried to hydroplane a lot. I got mine siped at Discount tire for $10 a tire. Took them about 5 minutes a tire. They remove them, run them through the siping machine, and put them back under the rig. I HIGHLY recommend it.

Note: Siping is putting slits in your inner lugs. While it helps with on-road handling in wet conditions, it can allow the tires to get damaged more easily off-road. When climbing some pretty rough ledges last time out I had some damage to the lugs due to the siping. Think of the kind of damage you can sometimes get on the front edges of your lugs when in tough spots. Now imagine that damage throught the lug due to the siping. To me, that doesn't counter the safety that siping provides on the road, but I wanted to mention it.

Ya, welded rear ends and swampers aren't always fun in the rain /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif. Especially on brick intersections! /forums/images/icons/shocked.gif

Thanks for the pic, I can see how this would help. I would imagine they will wear better like this as well because of the increased exposed surface area between the tread. Would make them run cooler and a little harder.

Try adding bald Swampers to the equation...there is a particualr corner my truck tends to get squirrley coming into under light braking when it's wet. The tires seem to want to almost lock up under compression braking coming into that corner when it's wet. The first time it happened it kinda freaked me out for a sec, but I was only doing about 10 mph...
Now I coast into the corner without gearing down first and it's a lot better./forums/images/icons/smile.gif
