Operation Shaggy Jr. is in it\'s final stages... (names)

We're T-minus one month now until Shaggy Jr. is due to arrive. The Wife is huge and Jr. is kicking the bejeesus out of her from the depths of The Belly.

We have some names picked out that we like, but we're not 100% decided yet. I just wanted to see what everyone likes as far as names go, to see if the ones we like show up and to see if maybe there's some that we haven't thought of.

So does anyone have suggestions for quality boy names?

Look up the 1000 most popular boy names

    AND THROW THEM ALL OUT

Do sometthing classic, look though some old mytholigies

Here are my predictably odd but perfectly serious suggestions

Vash, Cloud, Death, Run, Angel, Blood, Punk, Guts, Spike, Iron, Hell, Trixpidae, Grim, Icharo, Mech, Slaughter, Cable, Spoke

    and uh some normal ones

    Uhhhhh Tel? Jet? Kid? Sailor?

Super cool combo suggestion: Odin, Orion, Hades, Oak, Break, Aiden, Loki

Please, do not name him anything trite, or any old name spelled differently

I was named after a cowboy, and I barely made it

    hahaha
Hmmmmm, my wife and I said I was incharge of boy names and she was incharge of girl names. I got me one of thoes 2001 baby names books that give a brief definition of the name.
Anyway I picked Tyler for my son and she picked Alexa for our daughter.
It's tuff to think of names...every name you say may remind you of someone....

Lots of suggestions here... I want something that's fairly different, but I'm not into the whole "normal name spelled all Fu#$ed up" thing, I think it's kinda stoopid, but that's just my opinion. You're basically sentencing the kid to a lifetime of people misspelling his name and him having to correct them.

I don't think that I'll be naming him Sue, Death or Sailor either (I can see it now, scarred for life because of the other kids mincing about saying "Howdy, Sailor!")... Naming him after a god seems a bit arrogant so I doubt that will happen. I just want a name that's strong, a bit different but not totally out there. My name was really uncommon growing up and I would have preferred a more normal name, now it's getting common but that does nothing for me. I want something in the middle, so he's not the only one in his school with the name, but I also don't want 3 boys and 4 girls to raise their hand when the teacher calls the name.

There are no names in the family that I would want to use, the only person I would name him after would be my grandpa, but he had Norweigian names that Americans can't pronounce. I have his first name as my middle name and I like it as little as he did.

Burt, I tried to make that deal but it didn't work out. If it was up to me I'd probably call him Mason, but the Wife doesn't like that name.

Keep the names coming, I like to hear what other people think about it...

Re: Operation Shaggy Jr. is in it\'s final stages... (names)

Oh the joys of the final month of pregnancy.
My wife is always chilly in the house so it was odd for me to be the one wearing a flannel in the house when it is 110 outside because she has the A/C set on "Neo-Iceage". I'm usually the one sleeping on top of the covers but found myself wrapped in a comforter while she is on top of the covers like the dog in that Sprite commercial where the guy comes home to icicles hanging off his reefer unit and the dog laying on the bed in the icy jet-stream of the A/C unit.

As for names we had several names picked out for the girl we were having. My wife being a teacher had issues with damn near everything that was suggested and several of her suggestions were just too odd for me or sounded too porno-ish. Well, we finally settled on a name that sounded nice, then she went to her last ultra-sound and we found out that our baby's "hamburger" changed into a "hot dog". Wow(!), what a call to get at work (she cried all day). When the tears subsided, we started hammering out a name for the boy. Having taken nearly nine mos to settle on a girl's name, now we needed a boy's name, and fast. We kept striking out until my grandmother suggested my great grandfather's name of Leland. I liked the sound of it and it grew quickly on my wife (when neither one of us said "NO" immediately, I knew we were onto something). We mulled it over, it passed several tests--the most important being the yell test, so we decided it was good to go. I agree with your views of not wanting to name him something common and spelled it in some jacked-up way or just an all out wierd name. As for having a unique name, mine is not so odd, but I think in all my years in school I only had one other person with the same name as opposed to my buddies named Tim (had four in one class). My wife likes unique names (not wierd names though--and boy does she see a boat load of those) because it lets the child stand out from the masses in the blur of the classroom setting (not necessarily a bad thing). Picking a name is a bitch, but patience is the key. You still have a bunch of time, just keep bouncing names off each other and eventually you will catch one, when you least expect it, that neither one of you instantly dislikes and when you do, you're done /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif.

    Good Luck!

    [pep-talk off]

I like the name Leland for a boy and Addison for a girl /forums/images/graemlins/whistling.gif.
