Im not a fan of dodge and ford v10's. To me it seems so dumb and pointless to ever make a v10.

The general can get it done with 8.1L and only 8 plugs. That and of course there's always this.

I'd prefer that truck as a duelie with a CTD under the hood with a manual tranny backing it up.

Well, in all seriousness. I do think the v-10 was designed for hp, not torque. (short stroke)

I've also heard they are the worst thing in the world for gas mileage.

I second that. I towed a pretty heavy trailor with an almost brand new 1998 Dodge Crew Cab 1 ton one time, which had an automatic in it, and even with the gear selector in manual 3rd gear position on hills, The tourque converter still kept locking in and out, until it finaly burned up.

thats what my dokota does....it can never make up its mind as to what gear it wants to stay in....not to mention the motor on the dokota is a complete pos and a gas hog..i suppose ill keep looking, trying to find a decent looking k20/30 around here for a decent price is getting kinda hard so i was thinking of expanding my options

Dont know about the Dodge V10 but a buddy of mine had a ford V10. That thing sucked gas like there was no tommrow. It got around 8 mpg in DD duty. It was a little better on the highway. He did not keep it long.
I have heard the dodge v10 suck fuel also. I think they rate fuel milage different for V10s. Instead of MPG they are rated in gallons per mile.
I know V10 Vipers get crappy gas milage also. They are rated 12 city and 18 or 20 highway that should give you an idea of fuel economy in a V10

A Dodge with a Cummins Deisel, and a manual transmission (must be manual not Auto) kicks ass. Try to find one of those.

I have towed with V-10s before nothing like a modern diesel but way better than an older big block. Only expect 8mpg all the time unless really loaded down ( a blazer would be alright) if you are towing 10,000lbs or more only expect 5mpg look for an older cummins with the manuel like has been said the Dodge auto not so good if you do get one put a bigger cooler on it and a temp gauge and start saving for a rebuild. Also they are way happier towing at 65 than 75

I have first hand knowledge of that.

Moms 2500 V10 was good for gas consumption. Sure it had power but the trade off for power vs gas mileage was way off.

I took it and pulled my 18' travel trailer and my bro-in-law took his 99 1ton dualie cummins five speed and pulled his alomost identical trailer. We were almost to Sunrise ski resort where the highway went to passing lane on a hill. I was in front and I punched it while my bro-in-law nailed his and came around me easily in the passing lane. I had the digital readout showing "1 MPG". Bro-in-law says his MPG never went below 8.

Mom sold her V10 for way below blue book because nobody wanted that that motor.

If you want a tow rig get a diesel.
