I think yellow is the bomber one. I am running a Wal-Mart battery now, but I am going with Optima'a when I install my dual battery setup. My buddy has one, and he swears by it.

Call the Optima Company before you use an isolator-it might void the warrenty. I used one 5 years ago and fried one of my optimas-that's how I found out about the problem. Optimas have to be charged between 13.7 and 14.2 volts, if you go over that for any length of time-optima fried. An isolator will cause this to happen. I was told to hook the Bats. up in parallel or get a dual output alt. New isolators may be improved but I wish I'd been informed-it might have saved me $130

deep cycle is made to be run down all the way and then recharged. if youre gonna run it off a alternator all you need is a red top cause its gonna be charged constantly. yellow ones are good for things like trolling motors, golf carts, hydros etc.. cause they can get used up all they way with no damage. normal(reds) would be damaged if you discharge them totally a bunch of times. just my .02

The prices are on Hellroarings web site:
    http://www.hellroaring.com

A company might change it's prices at any time without notifying off-road.com so the prices are usually left out. To save a trip here they are:

    BIC-75300A $149.95

    Remote Module (optional) $39.95
(you can make this yourself to save money)

The Hellroaring is one of the best isolators and should be ok to run dual Optimas with it.

Just a side note: I saw an ad for Champion for a battery that uses Optima's spiral-cell tech. I don't know the specs, but it might be worth a look to see if they are cheaper than the Optimas.

I have a dual set of Red Top Optimas and am using the Hellroaring iso/combiner mentioned above! I wouls have to say it is the BEST on the market!! THe BEST! IT is small and smart! IT will not let the batteries go above a certain vontage nor will it allow them to go bellow a certain voltage(as log as the alt. is working of corse)!! I recomend using the modual too just cuz it gives you incab diags on you electical system! YOu can tell when your alt is not putting out! You can tell when your 'main' batt is not holding a charge and you can combine both batts for Xtra power when needed!! VERY sweet set up!
Red top is all you need for a K5.
Oh and the customer service for Hellroaring is TOP NOTCH!
They even replaced my iso FREE of charge when I letterally SMOKED it by not dissconnecting ALL the grounds from the batt!!
GO FOR IT! Save your bucks and you WILL be happy!!!!
sorry got excited and have allot of coffee in me[IMG]

    James-
You could stay with your stock alternator for now. I'm running a stock alt with the dual setup and works fine. Even with the 12k Warn winch, the two batteries alone keep up ok. Eventually, I'll have a high output alt. Just haven't had the cash!

I forgot to add that I run a 120amp alt. I got this for 100 bucks. I whent to a local 'autoelectric' shop that did rebuilds on anything and everything to do with automotive elctrics. I waited while they made it and told them it's for a trail rig so they used heavy duty bearings, fan wheel and pully. THe power of the yellow pages!! [IMG]
