FINALLY!!!! After 3 years of working in the dirt, or borrowing shop space, I ordered my shop building (30 X 30). Now I have to get the slab poured, and start bolting all the parts together.

My neighbor was cleaning out his storage today, and I scored this stereo and signs for the shop. Got the stereo hooked up, along with the speakers-it rocks.

That stereo brings back some memories. I have a similar era "The Fisher 201, Futura Series" stereo in my garage and it still cranks. Embarrassingly enough, the only place I can find that stereo is on "vintage" stereo equipment sites......

Not to sound like a dick or put a damper on your day, but you're gonna find out that 30x30 is way too small. If it were me, I'd go at least 30x40 or even up to 30x50 which I plan to do.

I know any shop will get small. However, I only have 34' from the back of my house, to the property line. Also, my lot is only 50' wide, so I am limited there, also.

gotta work with what ya got. Congrats on the new building. I have a shop that is smaller than 30x30 and it works for me. Yes, bigger would always be better... but there is always the $-factor.

Who did You get the shop from? Was it a local company or a national company? What was the price per sq ft. and how tall was it. Oh and what kind of doors, sliders or swing? I got an acer with just a house on it so it really needs a shop.

i've got a 24x24 with a friggin load bearing wall down the middle. even if i opened it up, it still wouldnt be enough.

i wanna build a 60 x 120 and sink a 3600 sq ft 2 story house 15' into the 120' wall. got it all drawn up around here somewhere, nice scacious layout, 3 br 2.5 bath. now if i could just figure out how to get a permit to build it. :haha:

something about zoning saying your garage square footage cannot be equal or greater than that of the house.

After 2 months of bumping prices, I went with Curvco Steel. Price is $5480 delivered to my house from Pittsburg, No doors, windows or end walls. I can build the end walls cheaper than I can buy them, plus I can make the garage door (the end that will show) LOOK MUCH NICER. The other manufacturers were close on price, but they were talking about 8 weeks to deliver. Curvco will have it here within 2 weeks, if I tell them to. You think car salesmen are bad, wait till you talk to building salesmen. They ALL have a few buildings that were ordered but cancelled, AND if you buy right now you will save big bucks!!!!

I called Curvco on Fri evening. Sat morning I get a call back, and within an hour I have the deal closed, with shipping within 2 weeks, if I need it that soon. This company actually makes the components on site, no middleman-you are dealing directly with the folks who build it. When I get it, I will post progress reports, with pics. Now I gotta get my 8 X 12 storage emptied and moved, so I can get the slab poured.:doah:

Congrats on the new shop, Mike. One of these days I'll have the dough to lay down on a nice garage for the property. Of course, I have to stop buying toys before that will happen......:doah:

They are not toys! They are integral parts of a stress reduction program:

Step !: Take family for an all day boat ride.

Step 2: Feed kids and put them to bed.

Step 3: Have a few white russians with Kim.

    Step 4: Censored.:D :D :D

    So--its a quonset??..

Is the building a quonset style arch building??...if so,welcome to the club!--Dontoe has one similar to mine!--they are getting more popular around here--one neighbor 4 houses away built one identical to mine, after he saw my garage (copycat! )...but no other building goes up as quiclky,or has no maintenence like a quonset does..very cheap price compared to a stick built wood garage or other types of buildings too..I like the fact mine wont burn--I always felt uneasy about welding or cutting in a wooden building..:doah:

One thing I wish I did was either paint the bolt heads with UV resistant clear ,or mobile home roof coating,or get stainless bolts..thats the only thing on my building that looks crappy--all the bolts are rusted or turned black..the arches still look new though, after 14 years!..its served me well for the price of it...someday I'll get a picture of it on here somehow..
