Other causes of \"DIESELING\" or \"RUN-ON\"?????

I know that if your timing gets over-advanced your motor will "run-on" or "diesel" after you shut it off.

IS there anyhting else that will cause this?

Engine too hot, and if there is a throttle "kicker", it may be working incorrectly. Happened on my 305 with AC.

Throttle kicker sits on the front drivers side of the carb, and pushes the throttle open slightly under certain circumstances.

or....too much backpressure. ive experienced this a few times. i went from open headers to 2" pipes all the way back on the 454 and it killed it and made it diesel like a b*tch.

too high an idle can do it. My high idle cam wouldn't kick off so I bypassed the choke and it doesn't do it anymore. Takes a little to get her started on a cold morning but it just never sounded good to hear my brand new motor with 1500 miles dieseling away.

That makes the most sense so far. I did bump my idle up quite a bit while trying to solve my earlier boggy start problems and I've been too lazy to turn it down. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Thanks for the input, brothers!!! /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
