So, can you tune the guns so that they will only shoot about 20 feet and still make the ball break?

I need one that will shoot that distance, make a paint mark but not leave a welt.

    Thanks,

    Brett

As far as I know you cant. You could turn your air pressure down depending on what you use. But once you turn it down that much then you get into problems with you valves and ram. What type of marker?

Ok, so how easily do the balls break?

You can buy balls that are a little more brittle than normal and made for competition use...if you take me off your ignore list.

I don't know how easily they break in comparison to normal ones though. I'd say that 20 feet without leaving a welt is going to get tricky. Do you already have the gun or do you need to buy one yet?

Theres pretty much no way to make a ball break at that range without a welt.

Why do you want to do this exactly?

I need to mark sick cattle from a distance and I don't want to spook or leave a welt on them.

They're black and it can be difficult to find one in the crowd when they get stirred up.

ok i had assumed we were talkin about kids here, just crank back the velocity to ~ 220ish and get em from 50 or so feet. should work just fine.

Keep in mind that paint from a paintball is water soluable and will be gone after the first rain.

Can you shoot them from farther away, 20' extra or so would help bigtime.

Anybody know the velocities on paintball pistols?

The extra distance wouldn't be a problem.

We'd sort them out within minutes so water soluable is not an issue, it's just when a pen has 200 head you can lose them real easy.

    Thanks,

Farther shouldn't be a problem. I've never shot a pb gun so I've got no clue on how much power they have.

pistol is no different from a normal paint marker

they can be set as high as your reg will go, but normally you will start breaking balls in the chamber around 350fps.

Most fields have limits anywhere from 260 - 300 fps depending on what kind of location the field has.

    Whatever Wal-Mart has.

I've got a chrono at home if you want to see how low you can go while still being reliable.

Even if it doesn't leave a welt, I'd think it might spook 'em though.

nah, guys use guns on cows around here all the time for the same reason. I was shooting cows at 290 even from 25 or so feet and they hardly react. Cows got hella thick skin.

as for the pistol, I've seen them rockin 280. There only cap is what kinda charge you got left in that co2.

Stomper, I'll take any chance i can get to shoot up something with a pball gun. i'll even bring my own ammo and AIR :D
