I am going to paint my truck "Chevy Hugger Orange" and I can't decide if I should smooth out the top and paint it the same color or if I should paint it black with the texturized look. I am running black off-road bumpers so I think it might look nice with the black top. What do you guys think.

My friends '72 is Hugger Orange with the Black top. I like it... I don't think it would look right with an orange top.

one way fixen it is to use a roller to apply the paint. i used the rustoleum paint that comes in a gallon jug and apllied it with a roller it turned out great and hasn't chipped or anything for 2 years now

Have a body shop put on the rocker pannel texture paint if you want the roughness back. The stuff they use will take paint. Other option is to Have it Line-X if your going black. Color spray in bedliners do not hold color all that well. They also will not hold paint.
As to what color....My 75 has a white top that I painted the Desert tan that I had painted the body. The Lady's 79 is black. BY FAR the light color stays cooler in the summer sun. Hugger orange would look great but the top has to be perfectly smooth to look right. It would be labor intensive if it already has waves. I think it would look unique if you did it that way. If I end up owning the 79 Long enough to get it painted I plan to smooth the top and paint it. It has a bunch of chips in the texture already. Guy down the street has his top smoothed and it looks really good.

    Hey Grim,

I am thinking of painting my top black too. But, instead of painting the WHOLE thing, I think I will keep the top part (where no one should be able to see it), white. This should atleast HELP with the heat problems.

    Good luck Baja Viking

I like my wallet to stay a little heavier... /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

I take the top off during the spring and summer, until the first rain in the winter.

I am about to pick up my bikini (bimini?) top today!

That should make some kind of difference to these 106 degree temperatures today. /forums/images/icons/cool.gif
