I came home this evening and found my Paypal account had 2 unauthorized charges on it. I check this account every other day at a minimum. Just an FYI for you other Paypal users, if you find an unauthorized transaction take the following steps immediately.

    1. Call the Paypal number on the back of your card and talk to a rep. They will send you a transaction dispute affadavit by e-mail which will not work properly forcing you to retrieve it manually through the Security link. Once you have the affidavit page fill it out completely then print it off because you'll have to mail it in to Omaha, NE to get an investigation rolling. Once they investigate and find the charge to your account is false they will reimburse your account.

    2. Consider having your account flagged. This means you have to enter a new password, new security questions, and have a code snail mailed to your home address. Once you receive the code you log into Paypal and enter it giving you full access again. What this accomplishes is to put a freeze on any withdrawals preventing any more access to your account by third parties trying to empty your account.

    3. At a minimum have your card declared stolen and have a new card issued by snail mail.

I never thought I'd have my card information data mined but here it is, it does happen. Make sure to keep an eye on all your card accounts at least every other day. If I had not been checking my account on a regular basis I would have lost a stream of cash over the days. These people were attempting one charge per day, using my account to purchase merchandise from various states.

I think he has the paypal credit/debit card.

Credit cards are super easy to steal. Eat out at a restaurant? Guy taking your bill look a little shady? Anytime you hand your card over to anybody, they can simply copy all the info down, restaurant's are popular for this activity, some compile huge lists and sell them for $$$, others just use one every now and again to get something they want. Up until last year, your account#,name, and expiry date was printed on both reciepts. I used always scribble it out and that seem to piss off some waitstaff. :dunno: (Seems they used to use those numbers as the transaction reference # and had a hard time finding the trasaction afterwards to complete the tip amount).

Check all your credit/debit card account often. Report any suspecious activity. Happened to me last year, suddenly had 2 Skype.com (I never been to or used the service), and shortly after that, a few transactions at some online money transfer service. Got 'em all removed, and new card issued.

I believe there is someone inside eBay gathering and selling user information.

Paypal was a very secure outfit before it was bought out by eBay a few years back. When Paypal was independent we never received any phishing e-mail or other similar scams. We only got the spoof mail from eBay. Once ebay took over Paypal we had phishing and spoof mail within 1 week and it's never stopped. That is just my sole opinion.

I recommend changing your passwords every month. I have gone through all my accounts as of this morning and restructured them. I'll also be requesting a credit check from Experian or a similar outfit, just in case.
