    Well, the verdict is in.........

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - A judge formally sentenced Scott Peterson (news - web sites) to death Wednesday after calling the murder of his pregnant wife, Laci, "cruel, uncaring, heartless and callous."

Judge Alfred A. Delucchi then allowed family members to speak, prompting a shouting match that led to Peterson's father storming out of the courtroom.

Lee Peterson yelled from the audience as Laci's brother, Brent Rocha, spoke to the court, saying "Laci and Conner are the true victims here."

"What a liar!" Lee Peterson said before the judge admonished him and he left the courtroom. Jackie Peterson, Scott Peterson's mother, also interrupted Rocha but her voice was inaudible.

Scott Peterson, 32, was invited to make a statement. After several minutes of discussion with his attorneys, he declined.

Delucchi denied a defense request for a new trial before saying he agreed with the jury that "death is warranted."

"The court is satisfied beyond a reasonable doubt that the defendant, Scott Lee Peterson, is guilty of first-degree murder" and second degree, Delucchi said, adding that he found the killings "were cruel, uncaring, heartless and callous."

Peterson, shackled at the waist and wearing a dark suit, was escorted into court under heavy security.

He will be sent to death row at San Quentin State Prison outside San Francisco, the infamous lockup that overlooks the same bay where Laci Peterson (news - web sites)'s body was discarded.

He was convicted in November of first-degree murder in the killing of Laci and second-degree murder for the slaying of her fetus. A jury recommended the death penalty a month later.

Rocha spoke to Scott Peterson directly.

"I would hope that yo regret the choices that you made. Maybe you don't," Rocha said. "Did you really hate Laci and Conner that much or did you just dislike yourself?"

    :haha:

I imagine they'll single him out if they get a chance.

What a way to go. All he had to do was sit down and tell her he wanted a divorce and was willing to support his boy. Jeez, how hard is that?

I have a cruel, uncaring, heartleass, and callous way for people like that to die. You know, this brings me to a ponderance.

If someone is sentenced to the death penalty, then why have they made it, how should I put the words, painless for them to die?

I think that if they have committed a crime that fits the death penalty then I think they should suffer as well. Lethal injection, yeah it kills them but do they suffer? Electricution.... yeah that was okay, but what about just taking them straping them to a post, give them a smoke and just light them up with something like a few high powered rifles from afar..........I would volunteer to do that job for free, plus give me a chnce to add a few more marks on my K Bar..........

I don't think any living being with true humanity can justifiably execute someone with no conscious remorse at the brutality of it

That's why firing squads had one live and four blank

Electricution removes you from it partially, and lethal injection is humane enough to balance it out

...but pure slaughter of anything that can't fight back in direct terms is unnerving

If I had to do it, it would be with sorrow

In defense of my life and the lives of those who are innocent though, I would think that I would be very cold

I believe that death row inmates get their own sell in their own ward isolated from the general population, only out of their cell for one hour per day (From what I have seen on the Discovery channel). Different prisons have their different rules though.

In California ???? Never will happen. How long has ol Charlie Manson been sitting in Quentin's death row, 35 years or so? I think there are over 500 people on death row in Cal. The state has only excuted 12 killers since 1976. I think Petersons chances of staying alive to a ripe old age are pretty good. Too bad they didn't try him in Texas

Unfortunately, you're right on this one. If he were in Texas he'd be on the highway to hell already, but in Cal, all bets are off. At least there is a chance (albeit a very, very slim chance) of it happening as opposed to getting life w/o parole.

Wrong! Charlie never recieved a death sentance. He is house in Corcoran State Prison (all of 45mins from here).

Death row is strictly a single cell block, no contanct with other inmates as far as I know. I can find out real quick when I get back to work and ask a buddy who used to work it.

It will take 20 years or better for them to ake care of Peterson with all the appeals these fools get.

Where's Dredd when you need him.

Judge Dredd: You are charged with double homicide, how do you plead?

Scott Peterson: Hey man, like I was fishing in the middle of the night on Christmas after bangin that skinny blonde chick. Like dude, I had a beer with Santy Claus and he can prove my innocence. Just go to the North Pole and ask him. Man I'm tellin ya, I'm not guilty, I'm not guilteeeeeee.

Judge Dredd: I knew your were gonna say that. BLAM, BLAM.

early prediction, he'll never get the death penalty. IMO he'll be on death row for a decade and the euro-trash-wanna-bes in CA will get rid of the death penalty by then. Heck, look what they did with the death penalty for minors... court cited "overwhelming global opinion" in the decision... only a matter of time before the same thing is said to strike down the adult death penalty. Especially in a place like CA with its 9th circuit etc etc.
