    ...Two things

I am picking up a 14bff w 3.73 gears. I need to regear my 10b from 3.08's and also change it to an 8 lug. I have read tons where shops will charge around $100 labor to regear if I have the parts. I have been quoted $600 at one place and $1100 at another. Anyone have a line on a good shop that will do the labor?

Also, new rotors and calipers are cheap, but I can't find 3/4 ton caliper backing plates. Anyone have any laying around, or know of any place to find some?

I was on Broadway and Lower Buckey all day with no luck.

    This would be extremely cheap....

Have you thought of just buying a whole front end that is already geared @ 3.73? It was a very common ratio and it seems a waste to spend money to regear TO that ratio.

    I have a D44 front that is 3.73 - but it's 6 lug....:(

I went to north Phx today to get a 10b - 3.73 setup. I got there checked it. It was geared at 3.08.

I would be happy getting another axle already geared, but I'm having trouble finding one that someone isn't really proud of, if you know what I mean.

$100 is CHEAP. $600ish parts and labor aint bad.. Gears are time consuming and icky so nobody wants to do em for nuthin. Hell its only the front, have you thought about doin it yourself?

I thought about it. I have never done gears or have even seen it done. I have read a couple of write ups, that's about all when it comes to regearing.

Think it would be better if you just do some junkyard hoppin, and see what's out there, usually you can get a complete front diff for around $150...

I have a front axle here, not sure of the gear ratio yet, haven't pulled the cover yet, it's from a Dodge, has studs on the pass side spring mount area, (similar to D-60 style) but it is 8 lug, and i believe it has flattops.

Really don't think the complete front axle would be something anyone wants, it's a weird style, it has some vacuum actuator on the long side for something, i was told for engaging and releasing that axleshaft or somethine, don't know, as i said, i have not torn it apart yet to see what this thing is exactly...

Rotors are junk, but everything else is decent

Yep, it's called CAD for "Central Axle Disconnect". That's what they did for a while instead of locking hubs but it results in more wear since the diff and shaft are always turning, but it lets you turn on pavement like it's unlocked...

I have a perfect set of late 70's backing plates that have been cleaned and painted SUPER nice (dark grey metallic) and I would let them go cheap. Make me an offer. I'll be in the valley Thanksgiving weekend.:D

Thanks for letting me know. I may take you up on it depending on what happens tomorrow. I finally tracked down the 12 bolt rear rather than a 14bff. I wasn't able to meet up with the guy with the 14.

I have new 33's on 15's. I need to see how things go with wheeling down in the Valley with the 10 and 12 before I build up. (60/14bff) If I break stuff, well you know the deal:crazy: $$$$
