I wanted to build a crawler that resembled my future 73 K5 Crawler "Skinny", so here is what I have done.

Started with a stock Emaxx I got off ebay with no body.

Then started to gather the first of many parts for the buildup.

I started with the axles. Basically a TC Hybrid axle. I liked the way he made them and no point in changing a good thing. They will be a little different when I am done but the basic design is the same.

Then i got a stcok Clod body to cut and make into a 73 Blazer.

Here is the first mock up of the stance the truck will have when complete. It will now actually be about an inch lower.

And here is where I am at now. I started the chassis and cage. I only have it tack welded right now. Once it's all done and every piece is in place then i will solder every joint. There is going to be a lot more tubing going into it also. I want to make it look good with the body on and with the body off.

I'll keep updated this post as I make progress with it.

    Nice tubing work.:waytogo:
Were did you get that body at and what scale is it?
I have a Terra Crusher that only had 3 tanks of fuel run through it, one was by me and the other 2 by my friend while I watched him. He lost interest in it and wanted to give it to me, but I gave him $40 so I could have a clear conscience, sort of.

Esteban, looks pimp... but I think the body is slightly too small for the tires and chassis... dunno... maybe it's just me, but that's like 80 inch tires with a 200 inch wheelbase on a stock k5 body...

    What's the "TC Hybrid" axle?

I like the body narrowing... Now you need to boatside it!

"TC Hybrid" axle is just what i called them. There is a guy on Rccrawler.com that is named Twisted creations and he has made a few of these axles with the round tubeing to I just borrowed his ideas.

I was going to boatside it, but I kind of wanted to keep more of thebody so it actually looks like a blazer. I was also going to narrow the body like I am going to do to my real blazer but I decided not to on the rc.

That's pritty sweet. But, I still think it looks funny when it's on the wheels. I don't suppose you could shorten the wheel base and lift it. ????

Just giving you a hard time.... Nice work!!!!

Aside from what looks like alarge time investment, what does something like that cost to get started?

I bought the e-maxx for $300 but the only thing I used off of it was the tranny, knuckles, diffs and that is it. I was able to sell most of the stock stuff for all the upgraded stuff I bought. My buddy was over here the other day and I started adding it all up and I stopped at about 600 because I got scared and didn't want to know how much it REALLY cost. :eek1:

    Sounds like my truck.

Looks like great work, I was interested, but i don't think that my wife will let me start another $$ project right now.

Why is it that scale model trucks still require FULL-scale dollars to build???

    :D

you know i think if he would stop putting money in his RC rig and put it to good use on his Trail rig that is sitting on blocks in the back yard we can all go out and have a good time. Maybe this one he can keep from flopping it on its side. LOL :doah:

Of course i rolled mine to one up him... :haha:

    Hardy har har.

It's not the money issue with the big truck. It's the time and motivattion for it. This truck I can sneak into the garage every once in a while and turn a couple of wrenches on it without getting dirty. If the big truck was in the garage, I couldn't walk thru the garage without getting dirty and it takes a little more time to turn a couple of wrenches on te big one. :wink1:

not to get off the subject half way but a friend/partner at work drag races on a national level in several classes. This does turn into a high dollar hobby and he has paid i think near a grand for a special built motor just to tear it down to see what is different than the way he does his. he is running his own special mixed fuel and trying to work out no2 but has to work on a delay where it comes on a little more slow (it keeps striping the ring and pinion). He has sold a few cheap parts and cars but most of this stuff gets to be high dollar. He is sponsored at this too. I think he has1/4 the money in his rc motor as he does in his corvair's 454 (no longer rear engine). I have saw a few of these rc trucks play and it is quite neat but have not saw anyone rock crawl with them yet.
