    PIC\'S of R134 conversion to 1st gen.

I converted my stock A/C system to R134.I rebuilt the whole A/C system and installed all the new lines and Sanden compressor.
I still need to evacuate and charge the system but here are a few pic's anyway.
I was rewiring the truck at the same time so those pic's are in the link as well.

Thanks to BranndonC for letting me use his carport for this!

Now you do not have to convert your systems. There are several new brands of Refrigerants that are a Drop in replacment for R-12.they are also Compatable with the mineral based oil that was used with R-12...........

I noted that before my conversion. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

What made me go with R134 is the availability(even though I have my MACS cirtification) and the fact my system had been exposed to the elements since I've owned it(5yrs or more),no hoses or compressor.

I needed to replace everything except my evaporation core so I thought I'd give the newer technology a try.

We'll see if that was a good descision when I get the system charged and running.

I think if all I had to replace was the reciever/dryer and compressor,I would have just stayed with the R12.

R134 work well if all the components are there for that gas to do it's job right, especially the condensor, i am still running the r-12 (stock) condensor and have tried r-134 and a couple other gasses, and it just won't cool right unless i'm driving constantly without stopping. Not enough cooling properties in the stock condensor, i need the newer (more cooling fins) style designed for the 134. At least thats the conclusion i have come to with some research and trial and error.
