how much if any play should the front pinion have at the yoke. mine has a little, but if i remember, when i changed out the pinion seal last year it didn't have any. i know i should have gotten a new nut for it. i'll probably pick one up this week and install it this weekend. /forums/images/graemlins/1zhelp.gif

NONE! period. If it has play something is wrong. Either the bearings are going out, Somebody didn't reset the pinion preload when changing the pinion seal.

I was distracted and reread your post. Tighten it as much as you can with a 3/8 ratchet. it takes about 200lb of torque to make the crush seave compress. You will not be able to over tighten it with 3/8 ratchet without putting your feet on the tire and busting a gut trying.
