    Please help...I\'m cheap!

I need to fix my power steering. It leaks between the pulley and pump/res. I am seeing $70/new, $50/remfd. I am too cheap to spend that much. I will if I have to. I seen a rebuild kit for $15, my desired price range. Will a rebuild be good enough to fix the seal leak? What do you all think? I will end up buying a pump, not remanufactured. I just want the cheapest way. My wife don't like me spending money on my truck. Help guys.

It's pretty easy to rebuild. /forums/images/icons/cool.gif But you WILL need to have the correct tool to remove and re-install the pulley. /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

The tool is called, cleverly enough, /forums/images/icons/wink.gif a power steering pulley remover. A good one will run $80-100. /forums/images/icons/shocked.gif You might be able to find a loaner at some place like Autozone. Places like Harbor Freight sell the Made In China versions much cheaper, but they may or may not last very long.

And yes, the rebuild most likely will fix the leak. There isn't much to a power steering pump. Unless a bearing has failed, then the seals will fix it. Don't open the seal package until you have the pump apart. If it's wasted, retrun the seals and cough up the cash for a rebuilt pump. /forums/images/icons/cool.gif
